Physiological Effects and Evidence for FACE
Improve skin elasticity by localised collagen stimulation and production.
A reduction of lines and wrinkles. Improve skin texture and colouring.
An increase in water and oil content of the facial skin to enhance overall appearance.
A tighter feeling to the skin immediately post treatment.
An increase of local muscle blood flow can assist in tissue healing.
The facilitation of muscle regeneration to promote an overall feeling of rejuvenation.
These findings are important in the process of facial rejuvenation as the skins oil, water and elasticity reduces with age but the natural improvements associated with FACE can enhance the skin and complexion without drastic observable changes to the overall appearance; more commonly associated with other forms of cosmetic treatments.
Overview
Traditional acupuncture is based on the theory that vital energy (Qi) flows through the body in pathways called meridians. In healthy states this energy flows freely but if there is an underlying issue or condition this energy can stagnate. The insertion and stimulation of fine sterile needles at specific acupuncture points can release the stagnation and restore harmony to the system by rebalancing the flow of Qi. Traditional Chinese acupuncture has historically embraced the concepts of Qi and yin/yang and meridian theory. Providing there is a harmonious balance between yin and yang and the flow of Qi is uninterrupted all is essentially well.
However, when there is a disruption to the qi flow acupuncture can be employed to restore the balance of yin and yang and homeostatic function. Specific acupuncture points have the potential to induce localised healing and from a TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) perspective may also effect systemic function. TCM theory suggests that key yin organs have an integral part to play in facial rejuvenation.
Yin Organs
The heart is referred to as the ‘King’ of the organs commands all of the organs, houses spirit and controls emotions. Stress, anger and frustration can all cause wrinkles. A weak heart can lead to swelling and puffiness. A disturbed heart Qi can cause insomnia, dark circles and puffy eyes.
The lungs regulate Qi that we absorb from the natural world and effects both the skin and sweat glands. Weakness of the lungs leads to dryness, wrinkles and a withered complexion.
The liver has a major role in qi flow, emotions and systemic organ function. Deficient liver function disrupts Qi and blood flow (including the face). Disorder of the liver can result in dark spots and a dusty complexion.
The spleen is essential for overall health and beauty. It is vital for the balance of biorhythms. A deficient spleen qi results in a reduction of skin nourishment, loss of tone and increased looseness.
The kidneys regulate fluid balance and extract any excess alongside the bladder. Deficiency of the kidney yin leads to accelerated ageing, thin hair and reduced skin taughtness.
